พระเจ้าทรงเลือกดาวิดให้เป็นกษัตริย์
16:1 พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับซามูเอลว่า “เจ้าจะเป็นทุกข์เรื่องซาอูลนานเท่าใดเล่า เมื่อเราถอดเขาจากเป็นกษัตริย์เหนืออิสราเอลแล้ว จงเติมน้ำมันให้เต็มเขาสัตว์ของเจ้า แล้วก็ไปเถอะ เราจะใช้เจ้าไปหาเจสซีชาวเบธเลเฮม เพราะว่าในหมู่พวกบุตรชายของเขาเราจัดเตรียมกษัตริย์องค์หนึ่งไว้แล้วสำหรับเรา”

God Selects David as King
16:1 And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

16:2 ซามูเอลก็กราบทูลว่า “ข้าพระองค์จะไปอย่างไรได้ ถ้าซาอูลได้ยินเขาคงฆ่าข้าพระองค์เสีย” และพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า “จงนำวัวตัวเมียไปกับเจ้าตัวหนึ่ง และกล่าวว่า ‘ข้าพเจ้ามาถวายสัตวบูชาแด่พระเยโฮวาห์’

16:2 And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.

16:3 จงเชิญเจสซีมาที่การถวายสัตวบูชานั้น แล้วเราจะสำแดงให้เจ้ารู้ว่าเจ้าควรจะกระทำประการใด เจ้าจงเจิมให้เราผู้ซึ่งเราจะบอกชื่อแก่เจ้า”

16:3 And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.

16:4 ซามูเอลก็กระทำตามที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงบัญชา และมาที่เบธเลเฮม พวกผู้ใหญ่ของเมืองนั้นก็ตัวสั่นออกมาหาท่านกล่าวว่า “ท่านมาอย่างสันติหรือ”

16:4 And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?

16:5 และซามูเอลตอบว่า “มาอย่างสันติ เรามาถวายสัตวบูชาแด่พระเยโฮวาห์ จงชำระตัวของท่านให้บริสุทธิ์ และขอเชิญมาที่การถวายสัตวบูชากับเรา” และซามูเอลก็ชำระตัวเจสซีและบุตรชายทั้งหลายของท่านให้บริสุทธิ์ และเชิญเขาเหล่านั้นให้ไปยังการถวายสัตวบูชา

16:5 And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.

16:6 อยู่มาเมื่อเขาทั้งหลายมาแล้วท่านก็มองเห็นเอลีอับจึงคิดว่า “ผู้ที่พระองค์ทรงให้เจิมไว้ก็อยู่ต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์แน่แล้ว”

16:6 And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD'S anointed is before him.

16:7 แต่พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับซามูเอลว่า “อย่ามองดูที่รูปร่างหน้าตาหรือที่ความสูงแห่งร่างกายของเขา ด้วยเราไม่ยอมรับเขา เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์ทอดพระเนตรไม่เหมือนกับที่มนุษย์ดู ด้วยว่ามนุษย์ดูที่รูปร่างภายนอก แต่พระเยโฮวาห์ทอดพระเนตรจิตใจ”

16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
